Reverse Tie-Dye Your Denim - Wet Stains Pattern Recipe
Today I am going to share my recipe for bleaching your denim and get specifically what I call the Wet Stain Pattern which is the one you can see in the pictures below. I do it on jeans all the times and people love it. It’s very unique. In this specific recipe I will use bleach and not a colour remover because denim is a very tough fabric.
What you’ll need:
- Your garment, a pair of black/blue or light blue denim. To see which possible colours they will fade off please see our Blog article “How to Bleach Dye - Part 1”. Here I also explain how to test which colour the garment will fade off before tie-dyeing.
- Bleach (200ml for large items like jackets, 150 to 100ml for medium items like jeans)
- A small squeeze bottle like this https://www.amazon.com.au/Prettyia-Plastic-Squeeze-Solvents-Painting/dp/B07JPZDVFM; It's quite important you get this kind of bottle if you want exactly the result you see: this nozzle will give you exactly this pattern;
- Plastic tub or tray to collect extra bleach and cooling rack;
- Elastic bands;
This is probably the easiest recipe to get a pretty impressive result:
- Tie your denim with elastic bands, there is no specific rule here, tie a bit looser or tighter and where you like, cover the whole garment - so it will be easier to handle while bleaching;
- Prepare your station with a cooling rack over the plastic tub or tray;
- Prepare the bleach by pouring it in your squeeze bottle;
- Place your denim and pour, don’t forget to cover the whole garment , so turn it and do the back;
- Wait for the bleach to act. Bleach and colour remover take a while to act so don’t panic if nothing happens straight away. Also the more you will leave the bleach the lighter the stains will get.
- Keep an eye and when stains get to your favourite shade pop the denim in the washing machine. Do as much rinses as possible. Remove elastics before putting in. I did it with the elastics on in the video because I know they will not end up in the pipes and mess up with the pump destroying your washing machine ☺️. You can also rinse by hand;
- Dry!
How cool are they?
Let me know how you went!! If you need anything let me know! I can also do this for you on your jeans, head to the upcycle your wardrobe Collection Page.
Much love
